About Vanadates

Vanadates are chemical compounds containing the oxoanion of vanadium typically in the 5+ oxidation state. The most common formula of vanadate anions is VO43-, the "orthovanadate" anion, though numerous other formulas exist.

Vanadate and orthovanadate materials are notable for their optical properties and are often employed as laser crystals, usually doped with rare earth elements. Examples of common vanadate laser crystals include Neodymium-doped yttrium orthovanadate (Nd:YVO4), Thulium-doped yttrium orthovanadate (Tm:YVO4), and Neodymium-doped gadolinium orthovanadate (Nd:GdVO4).
